A new documentary film about the English-speaking communities of Quebec. What We Choose To Remember has been presented in communities in every region of Quebec since it was released at the Hudson Film Festival in May 2022. Each screening was followed by a lively conservation with the audience animated by filmmaker Guy Rex Rodgers.
Filmed on the 50th anniversary of the FLQ crisis What We Choose To Remember is a timely reminder of the turbulent years of national affirmation that resulted in hundreds of thousands leaving Quebec. The film interviews members of families that chose to remain in Quebec as well as newer immigrants whose families arrived in successive waves of immigration. What We Choose To Remember presents an engaging portrait of Quebec’s English-speaking communities that is far more complex and accurate than the nationalist stereotype of the ‘Rich Anglo Boss.’
CJAD personality Aaron Rand: “Premier Legault has got to see this film!”
Journalist Josée Legault: “I love this film. It presents an English-speaking community that we never see in Francophone media. I hope it is broadcast on all Francophone television networks.”
