Le Vieux Forgeron Art Gallery

Vieux Forgeron Art Gallery is a charming and soulful space nestled in a former blacksmith’s forge along the scenic banks of the Tomifobia River. Open from June through September, the gallery transforms this historic setting into a vibrant hub for the arts.

Throughout the summer, it hosts captivating art exhibitions, intimate cultural events, and live musical performances that echo through its rustic walls. Visitors can also explore a thoughtfully curated gift shop featuring handcrafted works by talented local artisans.

Step into a place where history, creativity, and community come together in a truly magical riverside setting.

“We tend to work with local artists who have never shown their art before. It makes for a special experience for both the artists and the visitors. There’s really no place like it.”
Eva Juul, Founder and Director, Le Vieux Forgeron Art Gallery.

How it all started

It all began with a vision. When Eva Juul and her husband, Gabriel Safdie, purchased the old wooden structure in 2008, they immediately saw its potential. With its rich character and riverside charm, the former blacksmith’s forge was destined to become a unique cultural space.

Today, Le Vieux Forgeron Art Gallery is a thriving artistic hub that champions both local talent and artists from across Quebec. During vernissages, Stanstead’s own blacksmith often joins the celebration, showcasing his craft in homage to the building’s roots.

The gallery continues to find creative ways to connect art with place, including an outdoor Artwalk through downtown Stanstead that featured works by local artists in unexpected corners of the town—shining a light on its natural beauty and hidden architectural treasures.

A fun piece of history: this very building once housed Rock Island’s resident blacksmith in the 1850s—a legacy that continues to inspire its artistic spirit today.
