The second showing of the season at Le Vieux Forgeron Gallery in Stanstead, features a solo exhibition of paintings by Alexandra MacDougall and a photography exhibit by Kim Prangley. The show will take place from July 7th to 22nd, with a vernissage from 5 to 7 pm on Saturday, July 9th. Alexandra's Flashes of Light is her newest series of watercolours and oil paintings based on her observations of nature in the countryside near her home in the Eastern Townships. Capturing the almost musical play of light and shadow, be it from deep within a forest, a meadow under noon day sun, or storm clouds over the lake, she moves easily between figurative and abstract, with her distinctive, dynamic mark-making, colours and textures. A second-generation Canadian with heritage from England, Scotland and Ireland, Kim's connection to the British Isles has always been very present and alive. She has traveled to the UK and Ireland many times, visiting over 30 stone circles, sacred sites and neolithic structures. During a trip to Wales in 2005, she had a mystical experience that instigated the creation of the Stanstead Stone Circle four years later. Sacred Journey of the Heart: Ireland are photos from Kim's most recent trip in 2021. The gallery, located at 240a Dufferin Road in Stanstead, is open Thursdays through Sundays from 11 to 6 pm.
